I am a sixty-seven year old Leavenworth, KS. actor who has impersonated  Mark Twain  for more than forty-six years.  For forty-one of those years, I was a speech, English, and drama teacher throughout Kansas. Then I performed as a hobby.  However, when I retired in 2015, I decided to spend considerable time studying Twain and expanding  my memorized Twain material for my sixty to  ninety minute show. The memorizing is very hard work, but the rest is glorious fun for a literary buzzard like me. Currently, I am avidly seeking and accepting performance opportunities in Kansas, Missouri, Colorado, and Arizona.  In addition, I hope to book  future performances in Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas.

The  title of my show “Twain for Twainiacs” is a nod to those who already have a great interest in Twain and the deep love for his writing. There is so much of Twain, and there are so many good Twain actors. But, in truth, all of us are chasing Hal Holbrook.

My aim is to foster an intensely direct and personal encounter between Mark Twain and the individual audience member. We do not go back to his time to know him, but he gladly comes forward to our time to know us. He is a friend worth knowing. I want each one to feel that there are only two people in the room: Mark Twain and him or her.  “Twainiacs” are people who share Mark Twain’s love of  words and books, his  devotion to  country, and  his fierce reverence for America’s freedom of expression.  “Twainiacs” anticipate his wicked sense of humor, the lengthy pauses for effect, and his inimitable  descriptions – all things that still make him the leader of the literary pack, some  one hundred and nineteen years after his death.
